Almost two hours later, the MedBay lights went out. Flynn and Reynolds stood in unison, turning towards the terminal where Dena and Kysa stood. The MedBay door then jerked open – Akiyama came through, grunting as he worked the door’s manual handle. He held a flashlight and shone it around the room.

“It’s okay,” Dena said, “My fault!” She shielded her eyes from the flashlight beam as she stepped toward Akiyama.

“What happened?” Akiyama asked.

“Kysa and I were trying to integrate the Eunda technology with the ship, but I must have tripped something. It should …”

The lights came back on before she could finish.

“Wait, where’s Kysa?” Akiyama asked suddenly. He snapped off the flashlight but kept a tight grip on it as he scanned the room with his eyes.

“I am here,” Kysa said.

Flynn nearly gasped as he realized Kysa was next to him.

“Apologies!” Kysa said quickly. “I intended to ask Doctor Reynolds for the tablet – I had a different idea to fix the power outage.”

Doctor Reynolds looked to the tablet and then back to Kysa. “You moved quickly. I barely saw you.”

“Yes, I reacted too strongly. It is easy for us Quan to forget that we can move more quickly than many species – especially when we are startled. Perhaps I should leave the ship – I do not want to upset you again. The Eunda Engineer-Third can assist if you need further help.”

Lee looked from Kysa to Akiyama. Flynn watched, still recording as she raised an eyebrow at him, and he nodded in return.

“Okay,” Lee said. “I’ll make sure the power doesn’t go out again, then I’ll take a break. I’ll let Aren know about the updates – she should be able to help, too. We’ll see about getting Engineer-Third in here again later.”

Akiyama nodded. “I’ll escort Kysa off the ship.”

“Very well,” Kysa agreed.

“I’ll stay with the doctor,” Flynn said. “We should finish summarizing the anatomy files for the colonists.”

Akiyama nodded again, and then he and Lee shared a quick kiss. The security chief let the Quan go out the MedBay door first, following the alien closely.

Lee sighed and looked to Reynolds. “I think I could use another cup of coffee.”

“Agreed,” Reynolds said. “Flynn?”

“No, no thanks,” Flynn said. “Let’s just finish this.”

Flynn followed Reynolds and sat as she poured fresh cups for herself and Lee. Lee sat with them, and Flynn listened as Lee retold what she had learned from Kysa.
